medical Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Addipa Adapoe has recommended the consistent testing of Covid-19 and vaccination.
He has said that even though the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2022 declared end to COVID-19 as a global health emergency, it does not mean the disease is no longer a global threat.
He has thus urged authorities to ensure that the country upholds the COVID-19 testing and vaccination to avert likely upsurge in cases.
The Medical Officer, who was speaking at a training workshop for journalists on uptake of vaccines indicated that the government appears to be sluggish in educating the public as to where Ghana is, regarding vaccination against COVID-19.
“I think we have begun to rest a bit on our oars in educating the public as to where we are, regarding vaccination against COVID-19. We should continue to advocate that the vaccine is safe and it prevents the severity of the illness and even death,” Dr. Addipa-Adapoe stressed.
He expounded that Ghana has recorded cases of COVID-19 after President Akufo-Addo on Sunday May 28, 2023 declared the end of pandemic in Ghana when there was no death.
However, the Head of Emergency Unit at Accra Regional Hospital maintained that the illness is not alarming but underscored the need for unvaccinated people to go for the test and vaccination voluntarily.
He praised the media for partnering authorities, especially during the pandemic to educate the public on physical distancing and other interventions or measures put forward to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
He prayed that the authorities would still partner the media to conscientize the populace and bring to the fore the fact that the vaccines are still safe and available.
